Origin of STAY FOCUSED

STAY FOCUSED. A motto that was formed throughout my experience of becoming the athlete and man that I am today. I was a kid who felt like he never got a fair shake at an opportunity. 5'5" 130lb Freshman B player only starting in a handful of games, and repeated the following for my Sophomore team. JV player as Junior with no Varsity game time and eventually quitting my Senior year before the season began. That deep feeling of self-doubt is what ultimately gave me purpose. I wanted to prove to myself that I could overcome my lack of real opportunity- and thus STAY FOCUSED became my mantra that I now live by.

I pride myself on out working others who were bigger and even more talented than myself. I never gave up on my goals and knew if I trained the right way, and studied the game that my efforts would pay off. Not bad for a kid that never played varsity basketball and went on to pursue his dream of being a pro. While there are things that can get in the way of our goals such as politics in all levels of sports, the work you put in will ALWAYS show.

I know far too many athletes have similar issues as I had, and I feel like I have the relatable experience to help athletes reach their goals. The more I matured, it was apparent that this mindset was not a "basketball thing", rather an outlook on life. What I have encountered as a trainer and athlete, is that same self-doubt we have inside of us. My ultimate goal is to help shatter doubt and create confidence in oneself, using basketball as the medium.

I am looking to share what I have learned (the hard way) to athletes who love the game as much as I did and want to prove they can achieve their goals like I did mine. Passion CAN be taught and developed. Skill is extremely valuable, but mentality can be the difference between a good athlete and great one. Just think of the greats: Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, etc. That is why my training and personal motto is “STAY FOCUSED”. Everyone has mental lapses and can be defeated, but how you respond will determine how far you go- life is, after all a marathon, not a sprint. I would be lying if I said I was never worried about the outside noise and naysayers, but I understood that production on the court or lack thereof, is directly impacted by how I trained and how seriously I took my craft (including all aspects: conditioning, skill training, recovery, film study, nutrition, and life outside of hoop as well). If you or your son/daughter wants to train with me, they will have access to my knowledge of all the above resources and I will do everything possible to maximize their potential for them to succeed.
